NORDIC TOURS - On Top of the World

Every second year a study trip is arranged for NORDIC TOURS employees. This doesn’t only strengthen our internal communication and teamwork but also has quite a big effect on the service that we can offer our clients. By being out “in the field” it sharpens our knowledge on destinations and the opportunities in the area. Therefore, we can to a greater extent offer thorough guidance and tailor the offers after your client’s individual needs.
With departure from Aarhus Airport and after short layover in Oslo Airport we flew to Alta where our bus was waiting. The first destination was North Cape where we arrange several tours to. With a gorgeous view over the Arctic Sea the first gush of cold wind brought color to our cheeks. And experiencing this amazing view and The North Cape Hall will not be forgotten.
At the North Cape we also came in close contact with King Crabs and got insight into the different opportunities a King Crab Safari can offer. We visited hotels in the area supplemented by hotels placed on our travelling route through Northern Norway. After a night in Honningsvåg our journey continued to the most northern city, Hammerfest. Here we visited The Polar Bear Society, that tells the interesting history of the brave polar explorers that started their polar excursions from Hammerfest harbor.
The next day we continued towards Alta where we visited The Northern Lights Cathedral. Alta is often called City of the Northern Lights because of its great placement for seeing the magical Northern Lights in winter times. It was also here the first Northern Light observatory was built back in 1899. After a presentation of the numerous exciting outdoor activities in Alta area we continued on a stunning drive towards Øksfjord. Here we boarded HURTGRUTEN and sailed towards Tromsø. We arrived in Tromsø shortly before midnight and ended the day with a midnight concert at The Arctic Cathedral..

On our last day we visited a Sami Camp near Tromsø. Around the fire in Lavvu the local Sami reindeer herder told us about living as a Sami. He showed cultural artefacts and performed a local traditional Sami Joik. There was served a traditional Sami meal. The energy and pride this man showed was so strong that you almost couldn’t help shedding a tear. It was an amazing ending to a nice and educational journey.
